Create a project

From creation to client invite, duplication, and archiving.

A project in Nexte is the base unit for any engagement: it bundles files, messages, tasks, invoices, and a client portal. Create as many as you need — no cap on paid plans.

Create from scratch

  1. Click `New project` in the left sidebar (or ⌘N).
  2. Fill in the project name (e.g. `Website redesign - Horizon Studio`).
  3. Link an existing client or create them on the fly (name, email). A single project can have multiple stakeholders.
  4. Add a budget (optional) and expected delivery date.
  5. Pick a timeline template (see Templates section below) or start from an empty space.
  6. Confirm. The project is created with a timeline, workspace, and pre-configured client portal.

Project templates

Nexte ships with 5 default templates based on the most common use cases among our users. You can also save your own templates from an existing project (Menu ··· → Save as template).

  • Website: wireframes → mockups → dev → QA → delivery.
  • Branding: brief → exploration → direction → assets → guidelines.
  • Consulting: kickoff → audit → recommendations → workshop → report.
  • App development: specs → design → sprint 1 → sprint 2 → launch.
  • Content marketing: strategy → production → publication → monthly review.

Duplicate a project

From the project list or an open project, Menu (···) → Duplicate. The structure is copied (timeline, tasks, files, briefs) but not conversations or invoices. Ideal for repeat engagements with different clients.

Invite the client

Inside the project, click `Share` in the top right. Three options depending on the control level you want.

  • Public link — URL shareable without account. Read-only by default. Fast but less control.
  • Code-protected link — URL with a 6-digit passcode you share separately. Good security/simplicity balance.
  • Email invite — the client receives an email that auto-creates their account on first login. They can then comment and upload. Recommended for long-running engagements.
Invited clients only see the specific project, not your full workspace, and can't see other clients.

Archive or delete

Archiving removes the project from your active list but preserves everything: files, invoices, messages. Available in Projects → `Archived` filter. Deleting is permanent (after typing the project name to confirm).

A project with issued invoices can't be deleted (legal requirement around traceability). You can only archive it. Invoices retain their numbering and stay exportable.
